China urges Immediate Rollback Citing Trump-Xi Consensus
WASHINGTON / BEIJING: China has strongly protested the United States’ decision to ban the Chinese artificial intelligence model ‘DeepSeek’ across US government IT systems. Citing recent understandings between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Beijing has demanded that Washington immediately revoke the restriction.
Issuing a stern response, China’s Ministry of Commerce urged the US to drop what it called “discriminatory” curbs. Beijing warned that such measures disrupt normal commercial cooperation and directly harm the legitimate interests of Chinese enterprises.
Breach of the Trump-Xi Understanding
Highlighting high-level bilateral talks, China stated that the ban contradicts the consensus reached between both heads of state. Beijing stressed that at a time when both superpowers are attempting to stabilize diplomatic relations and normalize trade ties, unilateral curbs like this risk escalating friction across the global tech market.
What is DeepSeek?
DeepSeek is an advanced, cost-effective artificial intelligence model developed in China that has recently taken the global tech industry by storm. Designed to handle complex coding, query resolution, and large-scale data analysis, the AI model has faced scrutiny from US officials citing national security and data privacy concerns, leading to its prohibition across federal systems.
